In June 2025, Fulai launched its second-generation flexible tactile sensor. Addressing limited conformability, single-direction sensing and integration complexity, the product was upgraded around true flexibility, full curved-surface coverage and three-dimensional force sensing for dexterous hands and robotic electronic skin.
True flexibility for repeated bending and complex deformation
Flexible tactile sensors must remain stable while bending, conforming and experiencing repeated loads. The second-generation product improves piezoresistive materials, flexible electrodes, packaging and silicone integration so that the device can conform to non-planar structures and reduce the coverage limits imposed by rigid components.
Company materials describe continued research into piezoresistive mechanisms and formulations as well as silicone materials and sensor integration. Materials, structure and process jointly determine sensitivity, consistency, durability and curved-surface adaptability.
Full curved-surface coverage
Robotic hands contain cylindrical, spherical and irregular surfaces. A few planar sensor locations cannot fully describe contact. Flexible devices can follow fingertip, finger-pad and palm contours to provide more continuous contact information across grasp postures.
Full coverage requires more than additional sensing points. Routing, fastening, calibration and inter-region consistency must be solved together with the dexterous-hand structure to balance sensing coverage and reliability in limited space.
Three-dimensional force and direction
First-generation tactile products generally emphasized normal pressure. The second-generation product also targets shear and multidirectional force so the system can determine both magnitude and direction. Directional information supports slip detection, twisting, insertion and stable grasping.
Three-dimensional force data can be combined with vision, joint position and control algorithms. The robot can then move beyond knowing that contact occurred to understanding how the force changes across the contact region.
From launch to industry collaboration
The launch brought together robotics companies, research institutions and investors. Fulai plans to coordinate material research, sensor design, acquisition systems and algorithms for dexterous hands, full-body electronic skin and other flexible inspection applications.
Customer sampling, system adaptation, durability testing and volume delivery must continue to validate the product. The website will update specifications, interfaces and cases using confirmed product documentation.
